The following skills are a general guideline to our seven ability levels. Students must have completed all the skills listed at each level to be considered AT that level. If students can perform some but not all of the skills listed, they should be placed at the next lower level until they have mastered these skills.
Ski Ability Levels

Level 1

Student has never skied before.

Level 2

Can stop by making wedge with skis.

Can perform slight direction changes.

Has never been on a chairlift

Level 3

Can make wedge turns on gentle terrain.

Can control speed and direction.

Has been on a chairlift.

Level 4

Has been up the mountain.

Makes wedge turns on ALL green slopes.

Can control speed and direction.

Level 5

Always matches skis on ALL green slopes.

Makes wedge turns on groomed blue slopes.
-
Can control speed and direction.

Level 6
-
Always matches skis on ALL blue slopes

Can control speed and direction

Works on carving, using a pole plant, running gates, and easier bumps.

Level 7

Always matches skis on ALL black slopes.

Can control speed and direction.

Mastered carving, using a pole plant, running gates, and easier bumps.
Working on terrain park, bumps, steeps, trees, and powder.
Snowboard Ability Levels

Student has never snowboarded before.

Can glide on both toe/heel edges on gentle terrain.
